Techniques That Promote Sleep Among the Toddlers
Sleep is a periodic and natural state of resting during which a person loses the consciousness of what is going on. When one is asleep, he/she is unable to react to stimuli unlike when he/she is awake. During sleep which happens between repeated periods, the body is either in the REM sleep or the non-REM sleep. The REM stands for the rapid eye movement while in the non-REM there is no rapid eye movement. Sleep is crucial for the restoration of the immune, muscle and the nervous system. The following conditions may prevent you from sleeping; dyssomnia, insomnia, sleepwalking, narcolepsy and other conditions. Just like in a grown-up, sleep is also of importance to a baby sleep or toddler. Below are ways to promote sleep in toddlers in case baby won’t sleep.
Making the sleep timetable is the most important thing on how to get a baby to sleep A timetable or schedule is a plan for the time and duration activities should take. The parent needs to perform various activities for the baby. The most important activities are sleeping, breastfeeding, playing, napping, cleaning and feeding the baby. A good baby sleep schedule must give the time and duration of the various activities. Small babies need more sleeping hours compared to the bigger babies. A baby should sleep for 8-10 hours in a day and this will make him or her sleep like a baby
Sleep training the baby is also important. So as to avoid disturbance, a baby should be taught how to sleep without crying. Some of the important sleep training baby activities are developing a sleep routine, coming up with a sleeping schedule, putting your baby on the bed early enough and come up with sounds to inform your toddler it’s sleeping time. After the sleep baby training, the parent will be able to sleep without the child disturbing him/her.
Third, one should change the diapers regularly. The wet diapers may make a child not to sleep well. Before putting your child on the bed, make sure he/she is dry and comfortable. Playing promotes sleep in babies. Comfortable and dry diapers will enable a toddler to play well and in turn, the baby will have quality sleep. The child will, therefore, be exhausted in the evening and this will promote sleep. Changing of the diapers should be done about 4 times in a day. Quality diapers also promote sleep in toddlers.
The next important tip is cleaning the baby before the bedtime. Wash the baby, change his/her clothes and oil him/her and you will see a change in the sleep patterns. Clean pajamas should also be put on before the child retires to bed. These provide a good sleeping and relaxing environment.
